How to care for your cake on collection
-
Your cake will be chilled prior to collection. If you will be travelling with your cake again after collection, we recommend chilling the cake until this time. Please chill your cake if it has fruit on it, if not consuming the same day.
-
Cakes should be kept flat during transport. If driving, please place your cake in the boot of your car, this is by far the safest place for it. Failing this the footwell by the passenger seat. If you place your cake on the seat or hold it during travel we cannot be held responsible for your cake not arriving in one piece.
-
In hot weather, you may need to refrigerate your cake after collection. During the summer every effort is made to make your cake more heat stable. Your cake is iced in buttercream or ganache, however, and chocolate and butter will melt in hot weather.
-
If your cake has a long journey please inform us when booking. This will need to be taken into account when designing your cake.
-
Finally, buttercream cakes can be fragile so please take care when handling them. We want your cake to be as beautiful when it reaches it's final destination as it was when you collected it from us here at Red Robin Pantry.
RED ROBIN PANTRY & SUSTAINABILITY
With backgrounds in ecology, we feel very strongly when it comes to minimizing our impact on our world. This means that we aim to use only ingredients that are organic, fair trade and that are sustainable. Sustainability is one of the cornerstones of our company ethos. Whether you are planning your perfect eco-wedding or perhaps you just love our chocolate and want to learn more about our product packaging and our ingredients you can learn more about who we are here and what we stand for. This does add a cost to our products and services, compared to other companies that do not put such a high value on quality and sustainability, however we believe it is well worth it. We understand that not everyone shares our ideals, our products and services are here for those who do, and if we can sway a few others at the same time then all the better.
Palm Oil and the Rainforest
Palm oil in baking can be a huge problem, particularly in vegan and dairy-free baking. Vegan substitutes for butter generally contain unsustainable palm oil. We all know the devastating truth about palm oil and it's destructive impact on Malaysian & Indonesian rainforests and wildlife within them. This is why we only use products that use Rainforest Alliance certified and organic palm oil products in our baking or palm oil-free products. Remember that boycotting palm oil altogether won't help save the environment, as for the same yield of other crops it uses a third of the space. If you just boycott it, they'll just grow something else in its place resulting in further deforestation, this is why we choose sustainable palm oil products instead.
Cocoa & Chocolate
All of the chocolate that we use here at Red Robin Pantry is finest quality Belgian chocolate, it is also organic and fair trade, as is the cocoa powder that we use.
Dairy, Eggs, & Vegan Baking
We do make splendid vegan cakes, but we're not actually vegans here at Red Robin Pantry, so we do use dairy and eggs in our baking too. We do however source all of our eggs and dairy products from organic farms right here in the south-west. We believe in supporting ethical farming practices and sourcing our ingredients locally if possible.
Flour, Sugar, & Other Ingredients
We aim to source these products from sustainable sources, for example, we only use organic flour in all of our baking and organic fairtrade sugar.
Fruit & Veg
All fruit and vegetables used are sourced locally and organic where possible. We do not use avocados as an alternative in vegan baking, as often the farming practices involved in growing are not generally ethical.
Flowers
We have a whole section on decorating with flowers in our design & decoration section so I will keep this short. We do not decorate our cake with flowers grown for the floristry industry, we only use organic edible flowers that have been grown for human consumption at Maddocks Farm in Devon, by The Cornish Country Garden Flowers, based in Carnon Downs or those from our own edible garden.

Packaging
We've gone to a lot of trouble to minimize our use of single-use plastics. All of our packing for delivering cakes and for our chocolates that you can buy at markets and our online shop is biodegradable and/or compostable. We're a small company so often this means making the most of the limited options available. Oh for a company who specialises in eco-luxury chocolate packaging!!

This section is a work in progress, we are always looking for products that allow us to be as ethically responsible as possible.
